Curriculum

Beliefs

  •  We believe  that integrating dance, drama, music and visual art into the lives of students will enhance the learning of core subjects.
  • We believe in teaching to all the learning styles (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic) in every lesson.
  • We believe that students, families, staff members and the community must partner to provide a learning experience that fulfills our mission and produces individuals that:

  •     Inquire  – think curiously
  •     Imagine – think beyond
  •     Innovate – think creatively
  •     Inspire – influence excellence in a global society

  • We believe that arts integration into the curriculum will create academic excellence which in turn will produce critical thinkers who are academically proficient. We believe this curriculum will produce respectful, responsible, and resourceful individuals who contribute actively at school and in the community. We believe that arts education will produce students who are disciplined to work with exceptional skill, possessing qualities of creative problem solving.

  • We believe an integrated arts and technology approach encourages curiosity, open-mindedness, an a willingness to think “outside the box”.

Teaching Philosophy

The Robert Williams School of Arts & Sciences seeks to develop students who possess both fundamental arts and academic knowledge in addition to 21st century skills, including personal and social responsibility, critical thinking and reasoning, as well as communication and interpersonal skills. The traditional model of passively learning facts and reciting them out of context is no longer sufficient to prepare students for a life of learning and success. RWSAS’s teaching philosophy combines strategies proven to benefit children and improve learning, including learning by doing, artful thinking, and excellence in teaching. As an approved school system with the WA School Board of Education, RWSAS’s curriculum is aligned with the common core and the Washington State Standards.

Student success, engagement, wellbeing and learning are at the core of our vision. We believe that students thrive in a learning environment in which multiple pathways are available for students' personal exploration, creativity, expression and inquiry.

We value equity, inclusion and diversity. All learners are welcome.
