Since nature decays, it needs to be preserved in order for it to be viewed beyond the lifespan of a flower or leaf, which is typically a matter of days or weeks. We discovered how many artists use flowers as inspiration, and one artist, Azume Mokoto, even sent flowers to space and photographed them.
We extracted ink and colors from flowers. Then we arranged flowers and photographed them, and finally we froze flowers and used time lapse photography to watch the melting process. Along with that we layered our poetry unit into this. First we wrote a few haikus, and then what ended up in this final piece is a diamante style poem about destruction and creation. The last piece of this video art was the inclusion of the music soundtrack that was created by a student on our baby grand piano in our music studio.
